Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) ; translation: Jharkhand Liberation Front) is a state political party in the Indian state of Jharkhand. It has two seats in the 15th Lok Sabha. Shibu Soren is the president of the JMM. JMM is also an influential political party in the neighbouring Indian states of Odisha and West Bengal.Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, roughly translated as the Jharkhand Liberation Front, is a regional political party, as approved by the Election Commission of India. Its mass base is primarily in the state of Jharkhand, though it has an influential presence in the neighbouring states such as West Bengal and Odisha .
The JMM was formed in 1973 as a movement to spearhead what would become a decades-long effort to establish a separate Jharkhand state out of the existing Bihar state. Its founders were Shibu Soren, Nirmal Mahto, and the Marxist Arun Kumar (A.K.) Roy—all of whom were members of indigenous minorities officially classified as Scheduled Tribes. Shri Sibu Soren is the founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha as well as party president from 1991. He also served as Chief Minister of Jharkhand. He was also Minister for Coal and Mines in the Union Cabinet of Manmohan Singh in 2004. Presentaly he is Member of Parliament in 16th Lok Sabha from Dumka. Sibu Soren was born on January 11, 1944, in Nemra village of Ramgarh district, in what was, at the time, Bihar.
Soren also endorses state government of the Jharkhand constituted in 2006 and governed by Independent Chief minister Madhu Koda. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha that Soren heads has a history of more than twenty years when it was formed by Binod Bihari Mahato. During the crisis of UPA government in the center Sibu soren led JMM backed Congress govt. as the govt protected itself from being minority due to withdrawal of support of CPI led Left front now Soren demands the chief minister ship of Jharkhand and appeals UPA govt. to assist him in being the chief of the state and Madhu Koda Govt. has been facing minority for its withdrawal of support which JMM was giving before. All the JMM MLAs have withdrawn their support from Madhu Koda government thus Soren being the chief minister seems to be apparent. The superior ideology of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is to spread regional brotherhood among all the people in the world. The party has got unique service in the hands of Soren due to his significant leadership.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha aims at the liberalization of Jharkhand. The basic ideology of the party is true socialism and everyone’s participation/contribution/rights/honor & identity to build the nation in strongest way to lead the world society through their ethnic values and progressive destination.Buckling under pressure from the JMM members, with whose support the Janta Dal had a majority in the state Assembly, the Bihar government on July 22, 1997, adopted a resolution for the creation of a separate state. In 1998, however, Janta Dal leader Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav reversed his stand on Jharkhand statehood. The JMM reacted sharply, withdrawing its support to the Lalu government.
The Election Symbol of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, as approved by the Election Commission of India, is “Bow and Arrow”. This is usually drawn on a green-coloured rectangular party flag. The colour green is significant as it symbolizes the JMM’s intricate connection with the land of the state, of the natural beauty that Jharkhand inherits. Green is the colour of hope, of prosperity and of good fortune. The “Bow and Arrow” symbolism of the party is representative of the fighting spirit of the members of the Jharkhandis, in order to protect the deplorable state of the population. Pictorially, the party symbol is representative of its ideologies of regional, ethnic and linguistic exclusiveness, and its intolerance of those who are the chief enemies of the majority of the population, namely the feudal landlords, who oppress the peasants and farmers with heavy burdens of taxes. It strives to create a society of equality, fraternity, and an anti-capitalist economic and political system.
